Project 3: Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality + Context + User: THE TROPICAL SANCTUARY

For the last project, we were tasked to use our knowledge from the two previous projects to design a Tropical Sanctuary within Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam (TBNSA). The sanctuary was to have spaces for working, resting, contemplating, and other activities within a built-up area of no more than 100 square metres. For a brief period of two to three days, the design should be able to comfortably house two people, which includes me and a family member. It was crucial for the design to blend with the tropical site context, producing a distinctive building that complemented the local activities and scenery. The design should provide the users with an unforgettable spatial experience by incorporating architectural principles, materiality, and constructability. The initiative intended to improve our comprehension of architectural design principles, programmes, and processes as well as our capacity to decipher and evaluate site context and user requirements. We learned to create a modest structure that respects the site environment and user needs while balancing internal architectural components and exterior design ideals.
