Project 2: Structure and Body
Materials, Anthropometric and Ergonomic Exploration- 1: 1 Bamboo Activity Structure
For this project, we had to design and construct a 1:1 structure for a specific action, in groups. The structure was then placed at the Kebun at USJ2. We were to work with bamboo and had to understand the nature and characteristics of the material and make use of basic knowledge in construction. We were tasked to explore construction details, e.g. joints, joinery and structural quality with other supporting materials (rope, steel, tensile fabric).
Initially, we had to develop our design through a series of workshops, tests and investigations involving scaled study models, exploring architectural elements and principles (learned from Project 1) and later incorporate anthropometry and ergonomics into our 1:1 structure.
The action and theme given to our team was TO VIEW (SUNSET) and it was a good experience to build the 1:1 structure alongside our team members and under the guidance of Ms. Raihana.
